The Documento Nacional de Identidad Electronico (DNIe) (English: National Document of Identity-mail) has been issued in Spain by the Directorate General of Police since March 2006. Its main feature is to incorporate a chip capable of safely storing the same information that is printed on the card, in addition to the images, handwritten signature, fingerprints, and digital certificates for authentication and electronic signatures, but not personal data other than those that are printed, such as health information, fiscal, judicial, penal, police, etc.
