| - Sard is one of the most famous race teams in Japan. It was the country's first private team to enter the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Sard has also raced the JZA80 Supra GT since the model's inception. For 2000, Sard races this version in the JGTC. Sard, who traditionally used Dunlop for its tires, began racing in the Japan GT Championship (JGTC) in 1995. Partly because of the big earthquake that hit western Japan that year Dunlop curtailed its racing activities and Sard switched to Yokohama for its tires in 1997, becoming the only Supra team to run on Yokohamas. Unfortunately, with only one race car, tire development did not proceed as hoped and the unproven tires made for a tough challenge for the Sard team. In 2000 the Tsuchiya Engineering team also began racing a 1999-spec Supra on Yokohama tires. With two teams using the Supra-Yokohama combination, development of the tires progressed more effectively. At first it seemed that all the problems were solved, with the team coming in 2nd in the qualifying round and 2nd in the final session during a race at Fuji Speedway. In the end though, the team could not finish in the points consistently and it had to settle for a 12th place series finish.
