The Ahyandep is a Hexarian institute of public education. It traditionally offered a more academic tuition on specialised skills that are taken optionally by the student from the age of 6 onwards, while a rounded "social" education was taught by the family and the immediate community. As technology improved access to information, the role of the Ahyandep shifted to providing the means to study specialist subjects requiring unusual equipment, expertise or other resources not readily available in the community.
