The club was founded in 1937 and is also known as "Bianco-Blu" (English: white and blues), and has played at the club-owned Valascia arena since 1959. HC Ambri-Piotta won the Continental Cup in 1999 & 2000, and the Super Cup in 1999. The club has not been relegated to Nationalliga B since promotion in 1985, the same year that saw the arrival of Dale McCourt.
