The Winnipeg Blues are a Canadian Junior "A" hockey team from Winnipeg, Manitoba. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League and Hockey Canada. The MJHL franchise originated as the Winnipeg Monarchs in 1930. However, the team’s roots actual go back to the Fort Garry Blues of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League. Where the Blues were inaugural members, and after 4 straight championships purchased the Monarchs on May 18,1978. The team continued to played out of the Winnipeg suburb of Fort Garry at the Century Arena. In May of 1984, led by George Ulyatt, a consortium of 20 prominent Winnipeggers purchased the team, renaming them the Winnipeg South Blues. The ownership group included Winnipeg Jets general manager John Ferguson
