The M55 goes from Preston to Blackpool. The original stretch of road from the M6 to Junction 1 (A6) was part of the original Preston Bypass when it was built in 1958. The remainder of the motorway opened in 1975. Junction 2 was never built, as the M65 was planned to connect to this junction. However, due to the lane widening of the M6 to four lanes, the plans appear to have been scrapped.
