You can't really say that Gin betrayed Aizen as he was never truly on Aizen's side. He merely wanted to get close to Aizen and find a way to hurt/kill him. Gin's stated goal was that he wanted to become a Shinigami and change thing so that Rangiku didn't have to cry. In short, it's always been about Rangiku.

  • You can't really say that Gin betrayed Aizen as he was never truly on Aizen's side. He merely wanted to get close to Aizen and find a way to hurt/kill him. Gin's stated goal was that he wanted to become a Shinigami and change thing so that Rangiku didn't have to cry. Gin's hatred of Aizen also stemmed from something that Aizen, more preciously - Aizen's henchmen, did to Rangiku. Aizen has stated that he was scrapping souls from individuals in Rukongai with Shinigami potential, so we can assume that Rangiku was targeted by Aizen's henchmen due to her high spiritual power. What permanent damage Aizen's henchmen did to Rangiku is unclear. What is known is that Gin found Rangiku on the day she had her encounter with Aizen's henchmen and Gin took Rangiku in and started living with her. This was back when they were both children living in Rukongai. Sometime after starting to live with Rangiku, Gin discovered that Aizen was the master-mind behind what had happened to Rangiku and vowed vengeance. In short, it's always been about Rangiku.
