The Tunnel System was first created in the late 1600's when some dwarves moved into the region. However, until the 1800's it was not a vast system. Nor was it very pretty. During the early to mid-1800's, however, it became necessary to expand it because it was occasionally used as part of the Underground Railroad for the magical. Following the Civil War the Tunnels were largely forgotten about.

Following the Civil War the Tunnels were largely forgotten about. Until the 1940's at which time they largely became converted to a bomb shelter, and were expanded yet again. As the threat of nuclear war died off in the late 80's and early 90's the started being converted into useful things or closed off. The large space running from the Library to City Hall is a museum. The stretch running from City Hall to the Courthouse is part of the magical jail. However, the entrance from the school is supposed to be closed off and hidden so that the students don't stumble onto anything.
