Rolf Halbritter was a German veteran of World War II and a gendarme in employ of the United States in Nuremberg. In 1948, Halbritter shared concerns with Lou Weissberg that, with the U.S. leaving, the Nazis might return to power. Weissberg did his best to reassure Halbritter, and then left with a convoy. In truth, Halbritter was a die-hard Nazi, who hid his party membership button under his coat. Once the Americans left completely, he and his fellow Nazis would start wearing their buttons openly again.
