Anthony Bradshaw was an orphan. He was abandoned to the Clarendon Workhouse at the age of ten. Anthony was "sold" by a Mr Sutton to Edward Hardiman, who recognised his talent for foretelling the future and used him in a variety show at a music hall for a month. He was billed as "the Amazing Anthony – the Wonder of 1898".
