  • Penelope, Queen of Ithaca, was a character on Xena: Warrior Princess. She was the ruler of the small province of Ithaca opposite her husband, King Ulysses. She was left reign the island on her own for a year, when Poseidon prevented Ulysses from returnung home after fighting in the Trojan War. She and Ulysses married when they were very young: only seventeen. When Ulysses headed to Troy to fight in the the war, he blinded Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon, which angered him enough to prevent from ever returning to Ithaca. His lengthly abscence later lead to the entire kingdom presuming his death and they moved on and looked to the future. Penelope held a competition that would result in a new king for Ithaca - whoever was able to string the Bow of Ulysses would become the new king. When Xena and Gabrielle helped Ulysses return, he strung the bow and returned to his throne.
