__NOWYSIWYG__ Really simple, I'm proposing we change Verick to Varrick per this post by Bryan Konietzko. In the picture, he tags it as "Varrick" rather than "Verick", and as this is the only official source with a spelling, it seems logical that we would change it. 05:26, June 22, 2013 (UTC) File:Support.png Support — --Mts606 (wall • contribs) 08:14, June 22, 2013 (UTC) i support as welll, if that indeed is the only official source we have. Intelligence4 (wall • contribs) Posted on Admin Board. No need for discussion when the title is un-official. 14:59, June 23, 2013 (UTC) I beg to differ. A tumblr tag is hardly what I'd call an official source, which is why this thread is very much pertinent and the community should decide whether it's worth using it or waiting for a more conventional source. (FYI, I know the page has already been renamed. I won't undo now, but the resolution of this discussion will establish a precedent, one way or another.) ― Thailog 21:33, June 23, 2013 (UTC) but the tumblr tag is from one of the show's creators himself - i'd call that an official source. Intelligence4 (wall • contribs) I would tend to agree with Thailog on this point - a tumblr tag, for all intents and purposes, is not a great source and is hardly concrete when it comes to encyclopedic standards. I would make the argument that as this is the only piece of information on hand, with nothing supporting, it would have been more prudent to wait for something better so the article can have the source referenced correctly under our "verifiability" policy - but as I do not see this as a colossal issue, it might as well stay renamed. KettleMeetPot • wall 08:14, June 24, 2013 (UTC) So if Bryan said in the text of the post it is Varrick it is fine but if it is the tag it isn't? That makes no sense what so ever. Okay to avoid this discussion being prolonged due to several comments which mostly do not seem to be conflicting each other about the actual name change, I'm going to also show this here link which is Bill Rinaldi's official tumblr using the Varrick as well. Not sure if that counts as official enough or not to end the thread, but yeah. 00:25, June 25, 2013 (UTC) @TechFilmer: Did we say that? I would advise you not to put words in our mouths. I am actually adverse to using social media as sources in general, so yes, funnily enough, I think that a single navigational tag is not concrete enough to constitute as viable "official" source material such that an entire page would be immediately renamed from it - that was the entire argument here. Information from social media is subject to change or removal at any time, which is why they make awful sources in terms of verifiability - hence unofficial - and it would be better in the interests of the wiki to have a more conventional source to back up our articles. For example, we recently lost the first source for Unalaq's name, which was taken from Bill Rinaldi's Tumblr. So, contrary to what you might think, this is worth some debate. @ATFF: Like I said, I don't think social media is the best source-wise, but I'll back it since there seems to be some direct consensus in the spelling. KettleMeetPot • wall 03:11, June 25, 2013 (UTC) Yeah I'd normally agree but since it was confirmed twice and we don't have a spelling source for the original (that I can recall), I think Varrick's a suitable name. Although even if the social media aspect is troublesome, I don't mind waiting until discussion dies down for the rename ^^ Just thought I'd help add some more useful info. 04:05, June 25, 2013 (UTC)
