  • In ancient Greece and Rome, Strix was a bird of ill omen fed on the flesh and blood of humans. Its name is Greek in origin and means "owl," and the appearance and calls of owls inspired ancient ideas of owls as blood-drinking birds.
  • The Strix is a vaguely-defined being from ancient Roman folklore. The word itself means simply "owl", but it was believed that these were the blood-sucking result of involuntary and permanent shapeshifting. The Strix has lend her name to a variety of vampiric witch entities from eastern european folklore, such as the Shtriga and Strigoi. In modern Italian, Strega means simply "witch".
  • Mary's family was killed in the mid 1940s in Oregon, when one of the Japanese hot air balloons carrying bombs, detonated. Left disfigured by the attack, she was picked up by Haly's Circus, where despite her injuries, she became a talented aerialist. She would later be offered to the Court of Owls as a potential Talon.
  • Strix are pesky, mosquito-like Swara-Titans. These Titans are common and require very little energy for a Seeker to invoke, so they are often summoned in groups of two or three.

  • Strix are a race of dark-winged humanoids who live in a single community in Avistan, at the rocky spires known as the Devil's Perch in western Cheliax. Strix have developed a deep hatred of humans for unknown reasons, but deeply resent human intrusions and besiegement. According to legend, the strix were delivered to their current home in a terrible storm, where they must survive as punishment until the end of the sun. Images on scrolls in the library of Iadara in Kyonin have led to speculation of a relationship with winged humanoids among the men of Azlant and the elves of Adarshavir. Besides flight, strix see well in the dark, starlight, and moonlight, and are resistant to illusions due to their deep suspicions.
  • No one knows where the Strix originated. The Strix themselves do not seem to know or care. Kindred that ask them questions about their origins receive only contradictory answers, usually followed by an angry attack.
