Harakiri (切腹 Seppuku) is a 1962 Japanese film directed by Masaki Kobayashi. It is a historical drama set in 1630, a in Japan's history when the Tokugawa shogunate was at its greatest strength. However, the peace this stability provided meant that many samurai clans were disbanded and thousands of skilled samurai were forced to become ronin (masterless samurai).
