abstract
  • Social beliefs are the beliefs by which groups in a community identify themselves. Those dissatisfied with the authority may form campaigns to promote their ideas. Members of these campaigns are called activists. Of course, the interesting question is how to decide between these principles. These social beliefs are sets of ideals and worldviews: They are coherent from inside, they appear to be true once they are accepted, and they seem to be wrong once they are dismissed. Yet most philosophers who have tried to face the metaphilosophical question of deciding between worldviews - Friedrich Nietzsche, the late Ludwig Wittgenstein and Martin Heidegger - have ended up being unable to choose a right one. In order to choose a set of social beliefs, one needs another principle to decide among the sets of beliefs. But this would be a neutral metaphilosophy, which is unavailable. Hence these sets of beliefs are innate.
