The Goldsmith's Bank in Port Caynn in the third century of the Human Era was situated at the southeast corner of Gerjuoy Road and Moneychangers' Street. There were moneychanger's offices situated on the Gerjuoy side of the building, with desks for nearly every known country in the Tortallan Universe, changing both Tortallan currencies into foreign ones and vice versa. The booths for changing were situated in a great hall lit by tall windows with banners showing the gold scale insignia of the guilt hanging overhead. Guards were posted on each stall, ensuring the customers privacy and also to take care of thieves. The guild charged a fee for changing money.

While visiting the bank Beka learned that the guilt already knew of the counterfeit coins because they had treated each silver coin with a magical oil to show if they were false. Lionel of Trebond wouldn't go after the Goldsmith's Bank or the Silversmith's Bank for not telling the authority about the found false money, because that step would cause a panic. However, both Sir Lionel and the banks were already panicking.
