R.O.B. was created thousands of years ago to be the head of the R.O.B.s, and him and the R.O.B.s supposedly outlived The Ancients and took care of the Island and lived in solitude for hundreds of years. When the R.O.B.s were taken by "Master Hand" and held hostage, R.O.B. and the rest of his kind were forced to create the Subspace Bombs and Dark Cannons used by the Subspace Army. Ashamed of his role in the Subspace Wars, R.O.B. took on the name Ancient Minister, disguised himself, and proceeded to do "Master Hand's" orders.

When the R.O.B.s were taken by "Master Hand" and held hostage, R.O.B. and the rest of his kind were forced to create the Subspace Bombs and Dark Cannons used by the Subspace Army. Ashamed of his role in the Subspace Wars, R.O.B. took on the name Ancient Minister, disguised himself, and proceeded to do "Master Hand's" orders. Later, when some Smashers broke into the Subspace Bomb Factory, Ganondorf ordered the R.O.B.s to detonate every completed Subspace Bomb in the factory. The Ancient Minister tries to stop them, but Ganondorf possesses a set of override codes that effect all but The Ancient Minister, and the R.O.B.s are ordered to detonate the Subspace Bombs once again, which they can't help but do. Ganondorf then sends a flock of Auroros to attack the present Smashers. R.O.B. attacks the former and other Subspace Army members in rage, joining with the Smashers to do so. After defeating the enemies present, the Smashers try to save the R.O.B.s, who were released from Ganondorf's override after they attached to the Subspace Bombs. The R.O.B.s tell the Master Robot to go and preserve their race, but he is reluctant to do so, thinking that all that has transpired was his fault. Donkey Kong then grabs R.O.B. as him and the rest of the Smashers escape to the Falcon Flyer. R.O.B. joins the Smashers as they attack Subspace, and fights Tabuu, along with the rest if the Smashers, and Tabuu is defeated. During the next two years, R.O.B. lived alone in an apartment in Smash City,
