  • Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, to blacksmith Ezekiel Lanceton and Josephine Pattersen, not much is known about his childhood. Lanceton moved to Denver to attend higher education and, after his uncle Noah had been promoted colonel, he joined the United States Army at the age of 21, along with his younger brother Grant. In 1875, he established the Rioblancoan Independence Congress (later Home Guard Party; along with Montrose Garner and Daniel Bergmann), after statehood ambitions were thwarted by President Andrew Johnson. Lanceton also married Ada Ahlström and had four children with her: Edwin Jr., Clayton, Rhys and Lydia. In 1876, after the ratification of the Treaty of Springfield, Lanceton was promoted to General of the Armies of the RBAF and later elected first President of Rio Blanco. His brother Grant, who was the leader of the Rio Blanco Union Party, moved to Burbank, California and did not keep in touch with Edwin. After retiring from politics in 1889, he served as General of the RBAF and led the Rioblancoan army in the Rioblancoan Civil War against the rebellious Honookee Republic. This would be his last major intervention before the retirement from the military career in 1896. He lived his last years in Denver, before dying in 1902.
