Cock Lane is a small street in Smithfield, London which in 1762 became famous through-out the land because of the Cock Lane Ghost (also known as the Cock Lane Affair). The ghost appeared to be of a woman called "Fanny" who had been poisoned by arsenic (though Fanny actually died of Smallpox). In the end Richard Parsons was pilloried and was sentenced for two years imprisonment.

The ghost appeared to be of a woman called "Fanny" who had been poisoned by arsenic (though Fanny actually died of Smallpox). The hauntings were investigated and in the end the ghost and the hauntings were a scam purpotrated by Elizabeth Parsons, under duress of her father, Richard Parsons, the arsenic poisoning claim Fanny's "ghost" made caused the public opinion to believe William Kent (Fanny's lover and would-be husband) had killed her.
