Cock Lane is a small street in Smithfield, London which in 1762 became famous through-out the land because of the Cock Lane Ghost (also known as the Cock Lane Affair). The ghost appeared to be of a woman called "Fanny" who had been poisoned by arsenic (though Fanny actually died of Smallpox). In the end Richard Parsons was pilloried and was sentenced for two years imprisonment.
