He played junior hockey for the Ottawa St Malachys, Ottawa Jr. Senators, and the Pembroke Little Lumber Kings from 1933 to 1936. He turned pro with the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets in 1936-37. Giesebrecht got his first stint with the Red Wings in 1938-39 and was a regular in 1940-41 and 1941-42. In total he played in 135 regular season games and scored 27 goals and 51 assists. In the playoffs he scored 2 goals and 3 assists in 17 games.
