Berlin, Capital of the DDR, is the largest city in the DDR with a population of 30,000 civilians. There are 15,000 soldiers deployed in Berlin for the common defense of the Capital as a centralized military defense location in the DDR. After the formation of the SED, as the former seat of political power in East Germany, it was taken over and used for the central organization of the reformation of the DDR. Used as a principle part in the trade and organizational part of the socialist economy, the city of Berlin grows daily in population and industry.
