| - The Ancient Dragon is an enemy from Final Fantasy VII. Two of them are found in the Temple of the Ancients below the clock room, where they initiate a pincer attack. More can be fought in the Red Dragon room after defeating the monster. They can also be encountered in the third round of the Battle Square on disc 2 onwards after the player acquires Highwind and Gold Saucer reopens. When fought in the Battle Square, its stats are enhanced, with its HP doubled and its Attack and Magic Attack increased by 25%.
- In terms of overall appearance, these dragons possess a similar look to Elder Dragons, except they possess a color change, being more tan and pink in color, rather than bronze and yellow. The black splotches still remain on the dragon, and are noticeable on the head crests, wings, and tail. These dragons have a more spiny back, with a seeming triple row of small, stubby spikes, lining down the spine, to the tail. In terms of size, these dragons are the largest, barring Legendary variants, and they, like others, possess a spaded tail.
- The Ancient Dragon is a gold-crowned monster found in the Forest Shrine area in Origin Island. It is located at the top of a long flight of stairs to the north of the area.
- Ancient dragons (Japanese: エンシェントドラゴン Rōmaji: Enshentodoragon) are the most powerful of the ryūzoku but were hunted and killed almost to extinction by the golden dragons due to their fear over the ancient's power. It is at one point claimed in Slayers TRY that each ancient dragon was as powerful as thousands of golden dragons, but considering their ultimate fate, this seems to be somewhat of an overestimation. Little else about the ancient dragons is known other than that they were a pacifistic race; this quality was one of the factors that led to their demise.
- The Ancient Dragon is, according to Vittorio, the burning calamity that would occur should all four Void Mages gather together. Much bigger than a regular dragon, he has the ability to emit Miasma in order to form an anti-magic barrier around itself. This Miasma also has the power to control other dragons, with two known exceptions: a dragon which is being controlled by Vindálfr manages to retain its sanity, although by opening its Third Eye, the Ancient Dragon is able to bypass this; and Tabitha's familiar, Sylphid, as a Rhyme Dragon, is unaffected by the Miasma.
