The film achieved the highest opening of the franchise, passing X-Men: The Last Stand's $76.2 million opening. Along with the improvements in critical reception, The Wolverine outgrossed Origins in box office returns. The film closed in theatres on December 5, 2013, grossing $132,556,852 in North America and $282,271,394 in other markets, for a worldwide total of $414,828,246. The film earned $139.6 million on its worldwide opening weekend.
