The Siege of Berlin was the major incident of the SS coup of 1961, when the SS, under the direction of Heinrich Himmler, commanding the ship Reichsraumschiff Herrenvolk, blockaded the city of Berlin. The Herrenvolk positioned itself over the Volkshalle, demanding the resignation of Adolf Hitler from the position of Führer, citing his cooperation with the Zheronians as a betrayal of National Socialist doctrine. In response, Hitler sent several ships of the Reich Space Force to drive out the ships loyal to Himmler and Haj Amin al-Husseini. After a month of heated combat over Berlin, a commando team led by Otto Skorzeny entered the Herrenvolk and assassinated Himmler. The remainder of the coup leaders backed down. The siege ended shortly thereafter.
