In 1965 the 197-hp V-345 V8 was added, along with the Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. Heavier optional front and rear axles in 1966 raised the capacity ratings to 24,000 lb GVW and 40,000 lb GCW. The smaller 6-cylinder gas engines were discontinued in 1969 and only the BD-308 was left for die-hard 6-cylinder fans. In 1971 the V-266 V8 and D-301 diesel were dropped.

  • In 1965 the 197-hp V-345 V8 was added, along with the Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. In 1972 an optional tilting fibreglass hood/fender assembly was made available on the Loadstar series. The large square radiator changed the look of the trucks considerably. At that time the BD-308 and Perkins diesel were discontinued, leaving only the V-304 and V-345 engines. At the same time the optional Allison 6-speed automatic was reduced to 4-speeds. In 1973 International began using net hp ratings for its gasoline engines. The V-304 was rated at 147 hp at 3,900 rpm and the V-345 developed 157 hp at 3,800 rpm. The V-304 was dropped in 1974 and larger 10.00-20 12-ply tires were made optional.
