Alpha Persei (also known as Algenib or Mirfak) is a binary star system consisting of a small secondary star and a primary blue-white supergiant star of spectral class F5, orbited by twelve planets. It is the brightest star system in the constellation Perseus, and is located about 592 light years from the Sol system as observed by Earth astronomers. The Federation starships named USS Mirfak were named for this system.
