abstract
  • The Malazan man-of-war was a type of ship in the Malazan Navy. It was a front-line vessel, built for naval engagements, convoy escorts and blockades. They were tall and moderately broad for greater stability, and could carry a complement of four hundred marines. They were distinguished by their blue-black sails and equally dark-tarred hulls. Some carried the emblem of the Empire on their sails, an upright three-clawed sceptre gripping the Imperial orb. They could be used at "port assaults during which these orbs glowed like pale suns, blasting walls and mole defences into rubble. During deep-sea engagements the orbs [could boil] waves, cause hulls to burst into flame, and lash summoned sea-demons".
