| - Star Trek: The Original Series is a revised title for the series Star Trek, which originally aired as a TV series on NBC from 1966 to 1969. The series began the Star Trek franchise and has gone on to have stories in multiple formats; movies, novels, comics, short stories, video games and more. The sub-title The Original Series is used to distinguish it from its sequel series, and from the larger Star Trek franchise. The sub-title is used on some products, such as DVDs, however novels and comics continue to title TOS publications simply as Star Trek.
- In 1979, the original cast was brought back to film Star Trek: The Motion Picture, on a newly refitted Enterprise. The cast would come back for five more movies, ending in 1991 with Star Trek VI:The Undiscovered Country. Despite this, a few original cast members appeared in later incarnations of Star Trek.
- Star Trek: The Original Series (originally simply titled Star Trek) first aired in 1966. Set in the twenty-third century (the year 2265), it focuses on the cowboy-like adventures of Captain Kirk, the crew of the first Enterprise, and their five-year space mission. The series only lasted three years before being cancelled, but gained popularity during subsequent re-runs, and eventually, six movies were made. It also spawned an animated series and is the basis for the 2009 Star Trek reboot.
- Star Trek: The Original Series is set in the 23rd Century. The series was original titled Star Trek, but received its new title after several other spin-offs were released on Television and in Theaters. The series takes place on the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 with Captain James T. Kirk in command of the ship. The Enterprise's five-year mission is to explore space, to seek out new life and strange civilizations and boldly go where no man has gone before. Star Trek: The Original Series was canceled after its third season, but the mission continued onto Star Trek: The Animated Series, then went on to do six (6 1\2) movies. This series also takes place after “The Cage”, which is followed by the movie Star Trek (2009).
