The Knife bug was a glitch that occurred in 2002 wherein a player was able to equip multiple knives and gain an enormous attack bonus. This glitch would be caused by dropping a weapon, but opening the right-click menu for it, and having a knife in the next inventory slot. After the weapon was dropped, the knife would take the place of the weapon in the inventory and clicking the "wield" option on the menu would cause it to become equipped. Jagex took action against any abusers by banning those who used them for Player Killing and temporarily banning those who used them for melee training.

- The Knife bug was an event that happened in 2003 in RuneScape Classic. There was a bug that allowed users to equip an amount of knives, and therefore giving them a high Strength and Attack bonus. BuffySlayer reported a loss of a runekite shield, a very vauable item at the time, when she was killed after logging on with a knife equipped. JaGeX temporarily banned all players who trained with these knives and permanently blocked all users who PKed with the knife. JaGeX also created this script as a punishment to the bug abusers.

* Players with knives equipped while in the Wilderness died instantly upon logging on.
* Players with knives equipped while outside the Wilderness simply had them disappear.
* Players with knives merely in their inventory were not affected at all.
- The Knife bug was a glitch that occurred in 2002 wherein a player was able to equip multiple knives and gain an enormous attack bonus. It occurred because knives were originally intended to be equipable. The option (and thus assigned slot) was removed, but the bonuses remained.
