When Blizzard said "Hero Class" they never had any intention of saying a class is more powerful as if you were a hero. It just means a class is more unique in play style. The word hero often seems to confuse players to think the opposite of what Blizzard defined it as. "It's also important to keep in mind that even though the death knight is a hero class, that doesn't mean it is more powerful than the other classes, just that it will offer a very different playing experience." — Quoted from the official Q&A on Death Knights.

- Hero Class is a sub-classification of Main Character Classes. See the Main Character page for more information about Main Character Classes. Hero Classes:
* At the moment, the Celestial Hunter is the only Hero Class in the game.
- A hero class is a character class derived from the base classes, but with exclusive perks. Examples of these perks include a higher starting level, better starting gear, unique abilities, and class mounts. Another example of a perk is that your abilities can run off of something other then mana, rage, and energy. The hero class right now, the death knight, uses the rune system which no other class has. Prerequisites are required to "unlock" the hero class for play. The concept of a hero class is derived from the Warcraft III hero units.
- Hero class is a in the Heroes of Might and Magic games which determines the abilities of a hero and boosts they may provide to their army. In Heroes of Might and Magic I and Heroes II, each faction had only one hero class, and they only differed in starting stats, portraits, appearance and biographies. Heroes III introduced two classes per faction, with different probabilities of learning different skills. Heroes in Heroes V have similar abilities to those in the third game: each hero had his own specialty, though different heroes of the same class had identical specialties.

In Heroes of Might and Magic I and Heroes II, each faction had only one hero class, and they only differed in starting stats, portraits, appearance and biographies. Heroes III introduced two classes per faction, with different probabilities of learning different skills. Heroes IV also had two basic classes per faction, except the Stronghold, which only had the Barbarian, but heroes who advanced their mastery in various skills could get advanced classes (for example a hero with three different magic skills would become an archmage) and receive extra bonuses. Heroes in this game don't have any unique bonuses. Heroes in Heroes V have similar abilities to those in the third game: each hero had his own specialty, though different heroes of the same class had identical specialties.
