The small housing estate of Winget in the east end of Glasgow falls within the boundaries of Carntyne. It was built in the inter war years and housing consists of terraces and cottage flats. These were structurally inferior and since the late 1980s, the estate has been condemned as unfit for habitation. Some houses are literally propped up. The council are trying to empty the estate for demolition in 2007 but hardy elderly residents don't wish to leave the estate they have lived all their lives in.
