A veteran of the Iridonia-Lannik Campaign, he was tapped by Jedi Master Kavar to participate in the mission to capture Revan, the Dark Lord of the Sith. A qualified starship pilot, he was asked by Marine Captain and fellow Knight Laera Reyolé to serve as an emergency helmsman if the 1st Marine Strike Platoon's assault lander was damaged or destroyed. Though he was initially placed with the platoon's Third Squad, during the course of the battle aboard Darth Revan's flagship he and his fellow Knights Haydin Biddell, Noi-Vas Jenn and Keeh Rha followed the lead of Padawan Bastila Shan in cornering the Dark Lord on the bridge. Oakes survived Darth Malak's attempt to kill Revan by firing on his vessel, though this was due to the fact that he was holding the corridor outside along with Troopers Fin Tarsis and Bert Soskins. Escaping the stricken Sith warship aboard a commandeered KT-400 military droid carrier, he rendezvoused with Vice Admiral Forn Dodonna's fleet aboard Battleaxe. A week later, he returned with Shan to the site of the battle, in an unsuccessful attempt to try and determine what had happened to Captain Reyolé and Lieutenant Silas Dan'kre. In 3,954 BBY, he participated in the joint Galactic Republic-Jedi Order expedition to the Sith tombworld of Korriban, where he led one of the platoons of Aurek Company, Second Marine Battalion with the goal of subduing any remaining pockets of Sith resistance.
