- Uncle Doug is the uncle of James "Sawyer" Ford, and was in attendance of James' mother's funeral. At said funeral, Doug found James sitting on the steps outside of the church writing a letter. Doug glances at the letter, and realizes that is a threat against the man who caused the death of James' parents. He then tells young James that, while it is only natural to want revenge against the man who hurt him so deeply, he should attempt to move on with his life and not focus on the negative thoughts dwelling inside him. Doug then asked James to never finish this letter, to which James agreed. (The Incident)
