  • 3rd-level transmutation Casting Time: 1 action Range: Self (30-foot radius) Components: V, S Duration: 10 minutes You imbue plants within 30 feet of you with limited sentience and animation, giving them the ability to communicate with you and follow your simple commands. You can question plants about events in the spell’s area within the past day, gaining information about creatures that have passed, weather, and other circumstances. This spell can cause the plants created by the entangle spell to release a restrained creature.
  • Speak with Plants is a druidic spell shared by both druids and elven rangers. A caster can comprehend and communicate with plants, including both normal plants and plant creatures. He is able to ask questions of and receive answers from plants. A regular plant’s sense of its surroundings is limited, so it won’t be able to give (or recognize) detailed descriptions of creatures or answer questions about events outside its immediate vicinity. The spell doesn’t make plant creatures any more friendly or cooperative than normal. Furthermore, wary and cunning plant creatures are likely to be terse and evasive, while the more stupid ones may make inane comments. If a plant creature is friendly toward the caster, it may do some favor or service for him.
  • Casting Time: 1 action Range: Self (30-foot radius) Components: V, S Duration: 10 minutes You imbue plants within 30 feet of you with limited sapience and animation, giving them the ability to communicate with you and follow your simple commands. You can question plants about events in the spell’s area within the past day, gaining information about creatures that have passed, weather, and other circumstances. If a plant creature is in the area, you can communicate with it as if you shared a common language, but you gain no magical ability to influence it.

You can question plants about events in the spell’s area within the past day, gaining information about creatures that have passed, weather, and other circumstances. You can also turn difficult terrain caused by plant growth (such as thickets and undergrowth) into ordinary terrain that lasts for the duration. Or you can turn ordinary terrain where plants are present into difficult terrain that lasts for the duration, causing vines and branches to hinder pursuers, for example. Plants might be able to perform other tasks on your behalf, at the DM ’s discretion. The spell doesn’t enable plants to uproot themselves and move about, but they can freely move branches, tendrils, and stalks. If a plant creature is in the area, you can communicate with it as if you shared a common language, but you gain no magical ability to influence it. This spell can cause the plants created by the entangle spell to release a restrained creature.

If a plant creature is friendly toward the caster, it may do some favor or service for him. The elven ranger Vereesa used this spell to communicate with a pair of gnarled trees. Touching each in turn, the elf could feel their weariness, their readiness to die. She could also sense some of their history, going far back before the terror of the Horde. After speaking with the trees, using the language of the tree, of all plants, to give them a promise, the trees looked a little straighter. It was believed that her encouragement would be passed on to other trees via the plants communicating.
