Ami Suzuki (鈴木亜美) is a singer and actress from Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture. She was particularly popular in the late 90s and a competitive rival of Ayumi Hamasaki. However, due to legal problems, she was blacklisted from her management company, Sony in 2000.In 2005, the drought was finally broken and Ami was discovered by Max Matsuura, the infamous CEO of Avex Trax. Ironically, Ami had joined the same label as her old 'rival', Ayumi Hamasaki. Her comeback single was a hit and reached 3rd on the Oricon charts. With her change of label, Ami's image has changed dramatically, going from the typical cute pop star, to the sexy and serious DJ. Ami's music is now mainly electronic (shibuya-kei) and vastly different from her older sounds.
