The category or species (Japanese: 分類 Bunrui) is a term that identifies a Pokémon according to their biological characteristics. It doesn't have any value and doesn't have any relevance to the games; it's just a symbolic fact. There are more categories than types, moves and abilities, thus making the Pokémon unique. The category is named with the word Pokémon after it, for example, Skitty is the "Kitten Pokémon" or Litleo, which is the "Lion Cub Pokémon". This list shows every category there is with its corresponding Pokémon. There are categories that have more than one Pokémon.

This concept was introduced in Generation I and and has been present since. The category of each Pokémon can be checked in the Pokédex in the main series games and in some other games as well. Most categories are named according to the animal the Pokémon is based on, however, there are others that are just things related to such Pokémon. This list shows every category there is with its corresponding Pokémon. There are categories that have more than one Pokémon.
