The Citadel of the Dog is the great redoubt of Caraskand as named by the Men of the Tusk. Raised by Surmante Xatantius I in 3684, it was originally called “Insarum,” until it fell to the Fanim in 3839, who called it Il’huda, “the Bulwark.” The fortress has round towers, massive barbicans, and offset inner and outer gates. The defenses are tiered, so that each concentric ring overshadows the next. The outer walls are shelled in glossy black basalt. It gained the nickname “Citadel of the Dog” because the towering central keep vaguely resembles a dog curled about his master’s leg.
