At the precinct, a detective meets Reese with the Patterson case, which was found in Carter's personal effects. Reese and Carter talk about their lives in the military. Reese inquires on her thoughts on the future, and Carter expresses her desire to one day retire to a beach. However, she feels doing so will put her son's education in jeopardy. Reese is going through Carter's belongings, and finds an envelope containing a picture of him and Jessica which Carter retrieved (“Many Happy Returns”) Fusco enters, but Reese sends him away to help Finch while he investigates the crime scene.
