Whereas the Latter Day Saint Movement is the term used to circumscribe all followers of the teachings of Joseph Smith, Jr., Reformed Mormonism is the term put forth by Dr. William Law to circumscribe all non-adherents of the teachings of Joseph Smith, Jr., who suscribe to the teachings of the Book of Mormon. Special Book of Mormon witness David Whitmer is one of the more notable, however he was not the first. Most importantly, Reformed Mormons believe they will be judged by their adherance to the teachings of the Book of Mormon, not the teachings of Joseph Smith, Jr. (3 Nephi 27:23-25).

Special Book of Mormon witness David Whitmer is one of the more notable, however he was not the first. The premise of Reformed Mormonism is that Joseph Smith, Jr. did not adhere to the teachings of the Book of Mormon despite being commanded to do so (D&C 18:1-4). That since the time of Joseph Smith Jr. until now, all church leaders not endorsing the teachings of the Book of Mormon are under condemnation, as well as their followers (D&C 84:54-57). Most importantly, Reformed Mormons believe they will be judged by their adherance to the teachings of the Book of Mormon, not the teachings of Joseph Smith, Jr. (3 Nephi 27:23-25).
