He played junior hockey for the Brandon Wheat Kings from 1936 to 1938 and then senior hockey in Regina from 1938 to 1940. The New York Americans, their roster weakened by World War II, called Slobodian up for the 1940-41 season. He played in 41 games, scoring 3 goals and 2 assists and leading the team in penalty minutes with 54. That was it for his NHL career. He retired in 1949 and coached the junior Lethbridge Native Sons for three seasons.
