At the end of "Avenging Angel", Laura Stone—a social worker who runs a refuge for battered women—returns to her office, where she fishes out her personal photographs which she keeps inside the top drawer of her desk. Laura is feeling depressed by the latest developments in one of the cases she has been dealing with. Gloria Henderson came to the refuge, fleeing her husband; but she has been murdered, and her husband is the most likely culprit. Nevertheless, he has been released by the police because the Crown refuses to prosecute the case for lack of evidence.
