  • If you're talking about when you first load up the game when you're working for Nook, it doesn't matter. He gave you some flower seeds and sappling. Just plant them anywere, even on the opposite side of town as his shop, and it will count. If you want to know how to upgrade his shop, you just have to exchange a certain number of Bells with Nook (i.e., Bells you spend buying things and the Bells you get when you sell things--at least, this was how it worked on the DS. At the very least Bells you spend there will count). After a certain amount, he will upgrade his shop. The amounts needed can be found elsewhere on the site and any Animal Crossing FAQ you can find (just make sure it's for City Folk.)
