The 1974 National 500 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on October 6, 1974. David Pearson dominated the event, leading 91 of the 334 laps in route to a 1.4-second victory on Richard Petty. Petty had some comfort for his runner-up effort- he clinched the season championship.
