Many Armenians joined the invading Russian forces, but it was to no avail. After the Russian Revolution, the Ottomans pushed the invaders back. Even more Armenians were killed. But with the Ottoman Empire facing attacks elsewhere, it withdrew from Armenia, leaving a devastated nation in their wake.
