During his early career in the 1970s he was a founder member of the Canadian National Theater, appearing in Troilus and Cressida, Camino Real and toured nationally in Hamlet. He was also a regular voice on BBC4 radio. Television roles dating back to the 1980s include Chessgame, Traveling Man, Harry, Cracker, Emmerdale, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, Cold Feet, Hollyoaks, The Bill, Doctors and Casualty.
