Taylor was a rising star in neuroanatomy, specializing in the brain, when at the age of 37, she experienced a stroke. Over a four hour period, she lost the abilities to talk, read, write, walk, or remember her own life. It took eight years to recover. Because of the nature of her stroke, during this time she often experienced life from a "right brain" perspective, that is, a peaceful, less logical viewpoint.
