* Director's Cut: The cut of the film the director 'approves of'. If the director didn't like the theatrical cut because they weren't allowed to cut the film the way they wanted, they may put scenes back in, take scenes out, fiddle with timing, change audio or various other things. This kind of Director's Cut is very common on DVD. Occasionally, the theatrical cut is the director's cut, because the director's perfectly happy with the theatrical cut.
* Extended Cut: Identical to the Director's Cut, except not necessarily by the director, and not necessarily the director's original vision. Exampl

Example: Peter Jackson considers the theatrical Lord of the Rings movies to be his director's cuts, but the Extended Editions were created (by him) to restore deleted scenes to the movie and develop Tolkien's world more on screen.
* TV Cut: An edited version of the film. Basically, every movie shown on TV has been changed slightly (every time there's an ad break, the film fades to black) but often there are more significant changes. For instance, violence is often cut, swear words are covered up, and nudity may be removed. (See any Die Hard movie.) As well, they may be edited for time. Beyond that, things can get very confusing. The inclusion of one or more Recuts is often one of the selling points of a Limited Special Collectors Ultimate Edition. Examples of Re Cut include:
