Unlike the more commonly known title used by the various Pretender's of the Sith, the Decreton title was strictly regulated and hard to attain, with the prospective Sith Lord being scrutinized on the grounds of loyalty, skill, honor, experience and will. The natural progression of the Sith Knight, a Sith Lord held executive powers within the Sith military, often being placed in command of entire fleets or sectors. Another reward of attaining the title included membership into several exclusive organizations within the make-up of the Sith Order of Decreto; such as the Sith Council and the Sith Trinite. Despite the importance of the title, and the strict requirements, by the close of the Sith Crusade there were more Sith Lord's within the ranks of the Sith Order of Decreto than at any one time before. Bearing the title of Sith Lord did not exclude one from active service, and often it was the responsibility of the commanding Sith Lord to personally intervene in certain events. During this period many Sith Lords who had progressed from the rank of Sith Knight decided to keep their Darter'Ordeer. The title of "Sith Lord" was used regardless of sex or species, and could be obtained by anyone who meet the requirements, regardless of background; and as such was used in the formal address of anyone who bore the title. It was considered a most treasonous crime to claim the title of Sith Lord without it being conferred upon oneself by the reigning Dark Lord of the Decreton Empire
