Narrator: 10 days out from Polisberg, the delvers are encamped in a defensible position amidst the thickets. Narrator: Surrounding them on three sides is a low hill. To the southeast, a small creek provides a barrier, and a mass of brambles and groundcover will slow attackers coming from that direction. Narrator: In the center of the camp, Beltarne and Shelley chant over Davin Sorn, trying to force the demon out of him through repeated dowsings in holy water. GM: Move your token to where you want to be. Marik: Elder thing to the west... GM: Well, we're getting there. Marik: I'm content now. Narrator: Light clouds cover the sky, and the wind has died down to a refreshing breeze. Narrator: At 2 pm, a purple-yellow-black light blazes in the sky and everything gets dimmer and louder. A portal

A portal appears in the light, both far away and almost within touching distance. Narrator: A strange, chitinous shape, something like a funnel covered in warty scales, emerges from the tunnel. It has many small eyes, some on eyestalks and others buried amongst the armored plates, and 4 long limbs, each tipped with a massive tusk. Narrator: It is oddly camouflaged, in irregular splotches of orange, purple, and gold, and marbled with green. Narrator: The skeletons start banging their axes on their shields and gesturing urgently at it. GM: Any questions that the GM can answer? ** Marik nocks a bodkin arrow and lets it fly at the thing's face-ish area. ** Wolfgang: "Great" Wolfgang: (is the ritual done?) Marik: ((Correct me if I'm wrong, but Beltarne and Shelley are involved in a ritual and need to not be disturbed, correct?)) GM: Ironically, the current mana level is Very High. Ironic, because Shelley is involved in an exorcism that will be disrupted if anyone casts any spells. GM: Beltarne is assisting, but he can take a short break while he isn't casting spells without blowing up the ritual. GM: Okay then. Marik: I call 'First'. GM: Uhm? Marik: My reaction to the thing appearing is 'pull a bodkin arrow and shoot it'. GM: It's reaction to its appearing is to fly out of the gate and do nasty stuff, it's faster. Marik: That's fair. GM: Thank you. Wolfgang: is there still a gate or does it go poof? GM: Goes poof. Shelley: (( hurray, no more company immediately )) Marik: ((Also: Shelley's ritual is disruped by -anyone- casting spells?)) Shelley: (( 's how it works )) Marik: ((Just thinking that with VH mana and the chance that this thing tosses nasty acid stuff, I might want Create Water.)) Elder Thing: Floats silently forward, suspended on nothing in particular, eyes rearing up on eyestalks and focusing on Marik, Ghazeb, and Wolfgang. Light dims in lines running from the creature to them, and the air feels thicker. Elder Thing: Affliction zap on Marik [3d6.skill(18,-2)] => [6,1,6] = 13 vs (16) or less Success! by 3 Affliction zap on Ghazeb [3d6.skill(18,-2-2)] => [5,3,6] = 14 vs (14) or less Success! by 0 Affliction zap on Wolfgang [3d6.skill(18,-4-2)] => [3,1,5] = 9 vs (12) or less Success! by 3 Marik: Resisting with...? Elder Thing: Then it moves away, turning, its eyes spinning wildly to remain bearing on the delvers. Wolfgang: so, dodge/block/??? GM: ... HT-8 if you don't want to Dodge, or you can Dodge. PD does help but it isn't blockable. Ghazeb: ((so does that mean no shield db for the dodge?)) Wolfgang: Dodge with Shield (10) [3d6.skill(9,0+3)] => [3,3,3] = 9 vs (12) or less Success! by 3 Marik: Acrobatics: [3d6.skill(14,0)] => [3,1,5] = 9 vs (14) or less Success! by 5 GM: Errr... Ghazeb: Dodge: [3d6.skill(12,+3)] => [4,3,6] = 13 vs (15) or less Success! by 2 Marik: How many eyestalks does it have? Narrator: Darkness extends to Clyde, and the horse slows dramatically, its mane freezing in place as it rears back. GM: 7 or 8, at least, you're not sure. GM: Ghazeb only has Dodge 11 and a DB of 2 from his medium shield, BTW. Ghazeb: oops sorry about that...old bonus from a retreat Ghazeb: or something Ghazeb: Can I reach an eyestalk from my new position? GM: With a Move and Attack? sure. Or All-Out Long. Otherwise, no. Ghazeb: Gah...sorry too much D&D lately ...I'll just move. Shelley: COmmitted: extra step? Ghazeb: ### GM: He moved 2 just to get there, and the thing is 4 yards up. ** Marik stares at the back of Ghazeb's head, and rapidly adjusts his aim. "What did we tell you about stepping in front of Mister Arrow?" ** GM: Again, monster is floating 4 yards up. Ghazeb: ok didnt catch the 4yards up bit....this is gonna be fun GM: Dirt and grass are furrowing beneath it, but the wind makes no noise as it moves. Marik: Step, draw two arrows, load both, fire at two eyes. GM: Okay. NEXT TIME! Marik: ### Shelley: Er. Epsilion isn't really mobile at -14 HP is he? GM: Sure he is! 1/2 speed. Shelley: I flagged the badly injured ones with Kneeling so I could keep it straight in my head, btw Shelley: Epsilion clatters forwards and swings his axe at the monster! Shelley: Axe [3d6.skill(14,0)] => [2,5,3] = 10 vs (14) or less Success! by 4 Shelley: Er Shelley: I probably need a Jumping roll first Shelley: I forgot about the elevation problem. GM: They're now marked with Turtles to indicate SLOW. Shelley: Thanks! GM: Again, any all-out attack (Long) or Move and Attack is sufficient to jump at it. Shelley: All Out Attack Long! Shelley: He has nothing to live for! GM: ... and he's dead. Shelley: Well yes, that's why. Shelley: that 14 up there? GM: DOH! Shelley: Is it going to defend or something? Marik: Like that? Shelley: Axe [2d6+2] => [1,4,2] = (7) cut Shelley: Low damage to the torso of the horrible extradimensional thing what probably doesn't care! Narrator: The bone golem's wild swing crunches through an armor plate. A black void is barely visible through the tiny black cut. Shelley: I broke it! I broke it! Shelley: Beta Moves up, ready to attack next turn when the monster will certainly be out of range! Shelley: *** Beltarne: "I ken hold tha chant for ye if ye need, lass-- err, I ken hold tha chant for ye." Beltarne: Turn, chant, all-out defend. GM: Wolfgang needs to be make an aerobatics roll to fly with all these people in his wingspace. GM: Once he gets up he should be fine, though. Wolfgang: 3 yards isn't above them? Wolfgang: ### Wolfgang: that was a throw GM: And your point is? Shelley: He doesn't ahve it Wolfgang: mah, ok Marik: You used the limb holding the axe to attack. Marik: (For a move and attack) Marik: Ergo, no parry. Wolfgang: yah, ok Marik: (Also -2 to other defenses.) Shelley: Vine Hulk orients on the hovering monster, and shambles over to join the mess! Shelley: 2 move to turn, 2 move to relocate, enough move left to Move and Attack? Shelley: Or no? GM: Sure, you're good. Shelley: So ... can Beltarne really sustain the ritual? GM: If you want Shelley to do stuff, sure. If not, no. I just don't want to run Beltarne, but if you think you have enough on your mind, just chant. Shelley: Well, without spellcasting my contribution to this fight is "get hit" Shelley: I suppose I can yell directions at vinemen! Shelley: "Go for the eyes, Boo!" GM: It does appear to be a non-Euclidean horror from beyond space and time, and unconstrained by the normal civiltiies about position and reach.
