He played junior hockey with the Drummondville Rangers and the St. Jerome Alouettes in Quebec. The New York Rangers selected him 35th overall in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. Turning pro in 1969, Morrison played four years in the minor pros, even after being claimed by the Detroit Red Wings in 1970. His big chance came in 1973 when he signed with the New York Golden Blades of the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Blades had accquired him from the Los Angeles Sharks who had drafted him in 1972.
